The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Friday filed a notice of appeal against the order of the National Industrial Court which ruled on Wednesday that its members must return to work. The union, in a 14-ground of appeal it lodged through its team of lawyers led by Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, applied for a stay of execution of the judgement. The Lagos State Government on Friday assured residents of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government of improved connectivity with the construction/upgrading of Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with Bridge, linking four communities. The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins said this in Alausa, at a stakeholders engagement. Bamgbose-Martins said the project traverses a swampy terrain and would serve as strategic link from College Road through Ajayi Street, Ogba to Aruna/Obawole/Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijalye Local Government Area and Ojodu Local Government. A Magistrates’ court on Friday ordered that Prof. Zainab Duke who allegedly assaulted a female police officer on Wednesday be remanded in Suleja correction centre. The police alleged that Duke grievously assaulted her orderly in company of some accomplices on Tuesday at her residence in Garki, Abuja, due to the refusal of the orderly to breach professional ethics by carrying out menial and domestic chores at her house. A video of the assaulted officer had gone viral on Wednesday with many condemning the action .
The bodies of 71 migrants have been found after the boat they were travelling in sank off Syria’s coast, the health minister has said. Twenty survivors are being treated in a hospital in the Syrian city of Tartus. Officials said Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian nationals – including women and children – were believed to be among the 120-150 people who were on board when the boat sank on Thursday. It is not clear what caused the accident. A rescue attempt is ongoing. Officials added that the vessel had departed from Minyeh, a city near the Lebanese port city of Tripoli.…
