The Federal Road Safety Corps has said that no fewer than five persons have died while three others were injured in a car accident in Kogi on Sunday.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around Ogbagbo Junction along Ejule-Ochadamu road at about 12:47pm. It was said that a Nissan vehicle collided with a Mazda car creating very heavy impact.
The Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Stephen Dawulung revealed that the Nissan vehicle lost control while trying to dodge a pothole and in the process, drifted off its lane and collided with the coming Mazda vehicle.
He disclosed that four out of the eight persons involved in the accident died instantly while four others sustained serious injuries. He added that the other 4 victims were rushed to the hospital where the fifth person died while receiving treatment.
“Unfortunately out of eight persons involved in the fatal accident, four died instantly while four sustained serious injuries.”
“Our personnel, who rushed to the scene after a distress call, rescued the four injured and rushed them to Enemona Hospital, Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi, where the fifth person died while receiving medical treatment.”
“The corpses of the five dead passengers have been deposited at Morgue of the same Enemona Hospital, Ejule.”
“The obstructions resulting from the crash were immediately cleared from the road by our officers to allow free flow of traffic,” he said.

The FRSC Commander however revealed the cause of the crash to be due to over speeding and bad road.
He therefore, advised motorists to maintain strict adherence to stipulated speed limits and the use of speed limits by slowing down in built up areas and bad portions of the road.
While condoling families of the victims, Dawulung called on the Federal Government to look into means of repairing the highways most of which he said were riddled with potholes.
