Barrey Showkey, son of late fuji legend, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, has revealed the secret behind his father’s age long fight with his colleague, Alhaji Ayinla Kollingnton.
The fuji maestros dominated the music industry in the 1970s with their constant verbal assaults.
As against believes of strong bad blood between the duo, Barrey Showkey disclosed that Barrister and Kollingnton were best friends, and their renowned beef was a mere marketing gimmick they both plotted.
Showkey made the disclosure during a podcast session with TV Show Presenter, Gbadewonuola Olateju, popularly known as Teju Babyface.
He narrated, in the podcast posted on X on Wednesday, how Barrister and Kollingnton planned their beef in an effort to outshine other music legend at the time which include Ebenezer Obey, Haruna Ishola, and Yusuf Olatunji amongst others.
According to Showkey, Kollingnton was never interested in music as he expressed concern on how they will break through the circle of the other renown artistes.
Barrister came up with the plan of abusing each other which he claimed will divert attention to them and put them on the spotlight.
“Guess what, they don’t fight. It’s just market strategy. Believe me. I’ve always been with them- my dad and Kollington together.
“My Dad, when he wants to create fuji music, Kollingnton doesn’t want to be a musician at all. Barrister went down to pick and said Kola, let’s be doing this together and make money.
“He now tell him that how are we going to do amidst others like Baba Obey, Haruna Ishola, and Yusuf Olatunji.
“Barrister told Kollingnton in front of me that the way we can spring up among this people, be causing be cursing me.
“When you are causing me, it will divert people’s attention to us.” Showkey revealed.
The son of the late fuji legend, further disclosed how Barrister called Kollingnton for an end to the beef, citing that they aleady got the fame they wanted.
Kollingnton, however, refused to end the staged fight, stressing an imminent end to his music career if he did.
“A lot of people don’t know that. They were both using marketing gimmick. But it now got to the stage that my Dad was like Kola we have gotten what we want to get already, let’s stop this.
“Kollingnton said no o, I can’t stop o. What kind of music do you want me to start singing now. I don’t know how to sing other songs than to be cursing.” Showkey continued.
He maintained that the duo had a very close relationship which was unknown to the fans.
“They are so close, but people don’t know that. You see all these fans, what they are causing is much. If you are listening to them, it’s something else.” he added.
