Muhammad Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president, Ibrahim Babangida, has alongside seven others emerged on the list of President Bola Tinubu’s fresh appointment.
This was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Babangida was appointed as the chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture.
The President approved his appointment today, alongside seven other appointees across some Federal agencies.
As profiled by Onanuga, the 53-year-old son of the former military President is an alumnus of the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication.
He later attended Harvard Business School’s Executive Program on Corporate Governance in 2002.
His father, Ibrahim Babangida took over Nigeria’s mantle of leadership in 1985 after orchestrating a successful bloodless coup against late former military head of state and later civilian president, Muhammadu Buhari.
Babangida was renown for his infamous annulment of the June 12, 1993 election won by later Nigerian businessman, Moshood Abiola.
The former military president would however put the controversies surrounding the annulled to rest earlier this year as he finally admitted to Abiola’s victory at the poll.
Meanwhile, other appointees approved by Tinubu include Lydia Musa (Kaduna State) Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA); Jamilu Aliyu (Kano State) Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC); Yahuza Inuwa (Kano State) Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) chairman; and Sanusi Musa (SAN, Kano State) Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution(IPCR).
Also appointed are Prof. Al-Mustapha Aliyu (Sokoto State) as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA); and Sanusi Rikiji (Zamfara State) as the Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).
Other include Tomi Somefun (Oyo State), Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC); and Dr Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
