It was a bad day for insurgents who attempted to overrun the New Bussa community military cantonment with eight of their men being neutralised
An attempt to overrun a military base in New Bussa, Niger State has led to the killing of about eight terrorists late Saturday night.
The terrorists, said to be of the Islamic State of West Africa Province had reportedly aimed at freeing some of their leaders who were being held at a concentration camp in New Bussa.
The sect members had reportedly made attempt to force their way into the Wawa Military Cantonment but met with swifter response of the Nigeria Air Force men who have a base in New Bussa.
It was gathered that the commander of one of the two groups that made the incursion into the barracks was captured alive.
The situation had caused panic in the New Bussa community with many unable to understand what was going on.
A security alert sent to residents of New Bussa in Borgu local government area, the residents were advised to remain indoors until further notice while the counter attack lasted.
“The general public is strictly advised to adhere to warnings of remaining indoors till further notice and must take note and report new faces and insignificant movements around Bussa Wawa axis. Be security conscious. The military will restore normalcy of peace in due course,” the report reads.
