A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Monday unveiled a seven-point agenda that would take Oyo State out of its current status.
Adelabu, at a news conference in Ibadan heralding his governorship ambition, listed the seven-point agenda of his administration, if elected to include: Education, Health and Environment.
Others are: Security of Lives and Property, Mechanised Agriculture and Poverty Alleviation; Industrialisation and Employment, as well as Good Governance and Innovative Ideas.
Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),
had signified his interest in the governorship seat and obtained the party’s nomination form.
Adelabu, the Parakoyi of Ibadanland, was the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 general election, would on May 16 formally declare his governorship ambition.
The aspirant said he was the most credible and qualified to govern the state.
“My gubernatorial ambition is intended to enrich politics with ethics, to mix the soil of knowledge and professional competence with water of experiences in the service of humanity.
“I hope to give practical expressions to ideals of humanity in my Dear State as the Executive Governor comes 2023 InshAllah,” he said.
Adelabu lamented the return of violence, thuggery and brigandage to the state in the last three years, blaming it on Makinde’s weakness.
He said that he had observed the deficiencies of the Makinde administration, attributing them to lack of understanding about government business.
The former CBN Deputy Governor said that he was committed to correcting all the wrongs of the Makinde administration, calling on the people to him all necessary support.
“You will all recollect that I contested for the Governorship of Oyo State in 2019 and I lost the election under very controversial circumstances that almost heated up the polity.
“But, for my love for peace and tranquility in Oyo State and in fact, Nigeria as a whole, I therefore, decided to pursue the part of the Rule of Law,” he said.
Adelabu, who claimed to be an excellent performer everywhere he had served, said that his records were available for public scrutiny.
“You will recollect that I voluntarily retired from the CBN as a Deputy Governor, in order to enter the political fray and give the Oyo people first class and most excellent governance.
“As I have done in every place I have served, whether in the private or public sector, am a man whose history or past is not shrouded in any shady business or deal.
“I am a staunch believer of transparency in governance with zero tolerance for corruption and governance by utter propaganda with nothing concrete to show for it,” he said.
Also, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, a former Senator for Oyo Central and other leaders, urged members not to repeat the mistake of 2019 that caused them governorship seat.
