The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 28 suspects in connection to Benue state killings.
NPO Reported the murder of over 200 residents of Yelewata town by suspected armed herdsmen.
The massacre had sparked public outrage and demand for justice.
It had also seen President Bola Tinubu paid a condolence visit to the victims of attack.
The President, in his address during a town hall meeting with stakeholders of the state in Makurdi, had charged the IGP to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
In what can be described as response to the President’s demand, Egbetokun, on Tuesday announced the arrest of 28 suspects.
The IGP made the announcement during a news conference in Abuja.
While confirming the arrest, he assured Nigerians of the police’s commitment in mopping up light and small weapons illegally acquired by some persons.
He also disclosed the police effort on intensifying its border patrols in order to curtail the influx of irregular migrants into the country.
The IGP added that the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soon alongside the 22 suspects who were arrested in Jos over the gruesome murder of nine persons travelling to Quanpan for a wedding.
However, Egbetokun clarified that two out of the 28 arrested suspects have been cleared as they were only used as bait to arrest the 26 suspected masterminds.
