Bereaved family members of a deceased 26-year-old man has accused the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) of insensitivity after demanding N1.9 million for the release of his corpse.
As captured in a TikTok video shared on Tuesday by deceased’s sister, the family members had stormed the hospital in demand for the release of the yet-to-be identified man’s body.
The lady simply identified by her TikTok handle as bigtohyor01 accused LUTH of demanding N1.9 million for the release of the body despite not owing the hospital.
She claimed that the hospital demanded over N7 million in the course of his 15 days stay at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which was fully paid alongside his medication bills and bed space charges.
“My father is in pain. He lost his son at 26-year-old. They are demanding for N1.9 million to release his corpse.
“You demand for bed and medication fee everyday and we paid you in full. He is in the ICU for 15 days.
“We paid you in full. You collected over N7 million. Now he is dead and yet you are demanding for N1.9 million.” She said.
The lady further accused LUTH of being responsible for her brother’s death as she claimed she was talking before being brought to hospital where he became unresponsive all through his 15 days stay before his death.
She also accused the hospital staff of stealing the provisions sent to her brother.
“We brought him here from Masha hospital. He was talking. But since he came here, for 15 days he neither opened his eyes not talk.
“We brought milk and everything. But you were the ones taking it.
“Now you said you brought N1.9 million worth of drugs for him without telling us. Whereas, we buy N46,000 medications for him everyday. So, which drugs did you buy for N1.9 million?” She asked.
Other members of the family were seen challenging staff of the hospital with a police officer attached to the hospital allegedly threatening to shoot the protesting family members.
