The immediate past United States’ President, Joe Biden, has broken silence hours after being diagnosed of an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
The ex-President’s cancer diagnosis which has reportedly spread to his bones was confirmed in a statement issued in Sunday by his personal office.
According to the statement, a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms had led to a medical check on Friday, which disclosed the re-emergence of the cancer characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.
Reacting to the development in a post on his official X handle on Monday, Biden expressed his gratitude to his well-wishers for their love and support.
He held that he had alongside his wife, Jill, derived strength in broken places.
“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.
“Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.” Biden captioned the post containing a photo of him and his wife with their cat.
According to reports, the news of Biden’s diagnosis comes days after his spokesperson said the former president was recently evaluated for a “small nodule” discovered on his prostate.
Throughout his time in office, concerns about age and health dogged Biden, the nation’s oldest sitting president.
His health crisis came into sharper focus following his halting debate performance against Donald Trump last June.
In February 2024, Biden underwent a physical at Walter Reed National Military Center overseen by his physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who at the time said there were “no new concerns” with the president’s health and he was “fit for duty.”
