“The US administration and legislators have the power to designate Tigran as one of its ‘unlawfully detained’ citizens overseas and there are substantial reasons to do so.”
Crypto-currency company, Binance has called for the intervention of the United States government over Nigerian government’s continued detention of its personnel, Mr. Tigran Gambaryan.
This was contained in a statement issued by the group’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Teng, earlier this week.
Teng expressed his concern over the deteriorating condition under which the firm’s regional manager for Africa,Tigran, was placed in detention as he called for US intervention for his release.
“Tigran is a proud American who should not be subject to such unjust treatment. It is my sincere hope that the American government and political apparatus can exert its political will and muscles to bring Tigran home soon, so that he can get the adequate treatment and be reunited with his family and loved ones.
“The US administration and legislators have the power to designate Tigran as one of its ‘unlawfully detained’ citizens overseas and there are substantial reasons to do so.” Teng said.
According to the statement, the Federal Government has allegedly denied Tigran access to adequate medical care and recently prevented him from seeing his legal counsel as he awaits trial.
On the allegations laid against the cryptocurrency firm by the Federal Government, Teng labelled it as ‘baseless and far from truth’.
Recall that the Federal Government had accused Binance of tax evasion and money laundering while holding the firm’s regional manager for Africa, Tigran and Nadeem Anjarwalla, in custody on their arrival to Nigeria on February 2024.
While Anjarwalla managed to escape from the custody, Tigran was left to face trial which has been scheduled for the 2nd of September, 2024.
