Coming from a 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday , Man City had hoped to return to winning ways against Bournemouth.
However, their hope was dented after Antonio Semenyo put the host in a shocking lead nine minutes into the game.
Despite dominating the game, Pep Guardiola’s men could not breakthrough Bournemouth’s watertight defence, giving the host 1-0 at halftime.
Man City continued their dominant display in the second half as they struggled to get back into the game.
Bournemouth doubled that lead with 64th minute goal from Evanilson.
Josko Gvardiol managed to pull one back for Man City in the 82nd minute, reviving the visitor’s hope for a comeback.
The host would, however, keep Man City at bay as the game ended 2-1, handing Guardiola his first league defeat of the season.
The loss saw Man City dropping second on the table with 23 points as Liverpool leapfrog to the top spot following their 2-1 victory against Brighton.
