There is tension in the Ikoyi area of Lagos today as a 21 storey building reportedly collapsed with some people trapped inside the debris.
A federal lawmaker, Bamidele Salam, who was near the scene of the incident said on a facebook video that he first heard a sound that looked like an explosion.
The video showed some people scampering for safety at the Gerald Road Ikoyi area of Lagos.
The NPO Reports gathered that cars parked within the vicinity of the collapse were destroyed while those in adjoining buildings, many of them skyscrapers as well, ran for their lives.

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has arrived at the Gerald Road scene of the building collpase.
There is confusion at the scene as emergency officials battle to understand the number of those who may have been trapped under the debris.
An official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency who spoke with NPO Reports from the scene of the incident said nothing much could be done without the necessary earth-moving equipment to clear the debris.
A source said the property is being constructed by a Lagos based property company.
