Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) has formally assumed office as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Amupitan assumed office at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday shortly after being sworn-in by President Bola Tinubu at the State House Chambers in Aso Villa.
The new INEC chairman was warmly received by officials of the commission who had awaited his arrival at the headquarters.
After being introduced to all principals of the commission, the Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche, handed over to Amupitan to mark the beginning of a new era.
In his first address as INEC Chairman, Amupitan lauded Agbamuche for her temporal stinct as the acting chairperson of the commission.
He also acknowledged the presence of his colleagues from the university of Jos while describing his role as the beginning of a new chapter.
“I am very honoured to be with you today as your new Chairman.
“And as we mark the beginning of a new chapter, I want to assure of my commitment of holding the highest standard of integrity, transparency, and discipline in all our operations.” Amupitan said.
