Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) months after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku announced his defection in a post shared on his official X handle on Monday.
Recall that the former Vice President had on the 16th of July dumped the PDP as he declared his membership withdrawal from the party.
Atiku had in his resignation letter issued to the Chairman of the PDP Jada Ward 1, Adamawa state, expressed his gratitude to the party for the opportunities given to him.
The PDP’s 2023 Presidential candidate attributed his resignation to the irreconcilable differences that have emerged in the party.
Prior to his resignation, Atiku had played crucial role in the adoption of the ADC by the National Opposition Coalition Group he created alongside other prominent opposition leaders such former State Governors of Kaduna, Amaechi, and Osun state governors, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola amongst others.
While others had since decamped from their respective parties, Atiku in the post on his X handle.
He declared his official decamping to the ADC with pictures showing hold the party membership card.
“It’s official” Atiku wrote.
The development had reignited speculations of the former Vice President’s emergence as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Presidential candidate after about three failed attempts.
