The decomposing body of kidnapped Anambra state lawmaker, Justice Azuka, has been dumped on the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Azuka’s body was reportedly found by a joint security team on Thursday.
The late lawmaker, who is a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha 1 North Constituency, was abducted on the 24th of December 2024 along Ugwunaobankpa Road while returing home for Christmas.
He was abducted at gunpoint in a swift operation that lasted less than five minutes.
Confirming the discovery of Azuka’s body to newsmen, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the joint security team found the decomposing corpse during a routine patrol.
“In the early hours of today, 6/2/2025 at the second Niger Bridge, the Joint Security Team comprising of Police and AVG Operatives on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene.
“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team have taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved, please.” Ikenga said.
According to reports, Azuka had contested in the 2023 election under the Labour Party (LP).
He was initially defeated by Hon. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, Azuka regained his mandate after a court ruling ousted Egbuna.
