The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced his defection from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement is following closed-door meeting which held at the Government House on Wednesday, with ex-Gov. Okowa & some other key figures in attendance.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the decision came after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”
NPO reports that recently, Oborevwori had attended a meeting of the Delta State Ijaw APC leadership held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The meeting was led by High Chief Michael Johnny in which he stated,
“Sheriff is coming to APC. Forget what you hear in social media. Sheriff Oborevwori is coming to APC. There are landlords and landladies. As Ijaw people, we are not against anybody coming to APC.”
He also said any Ijaw person who wants to join the party is free to do so. “The day you are ready to come, we are ready to receive you.”
