There are indications that operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Ogun State have arrested a member of the State House of Assembly (OGHA), Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, over activities believed to be related to the festering cases of cult killings in Ogun state.
Mohammed, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Sagamu State constituency 1 is said to be in the net of the security agency alongside five other suspects whose names were given as Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya and Tobi Owoade.
Specifically, they were said to have been picked up over violence that broke out last weekend where eight persons were killed.
The DSS operatives had reportedly carried out a sting operation on Thursday after a tip-off which showed they were having a meeting at the residence of the lawmaker.
A statement issued by ‘Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the DSS had since Wednesday tracked the six suspected cultists to the official residence of the lawmaker, where he was allegedly providing shelter to the cultists.
Adeniran, in the statement, disclosed that the suspects are presently undergoing interrogation in DSS custody after many dangerous weapons, including guns, were recovered from them.
Mohammed was linked to a violent protest in February this year over Naira redesign.
The lawmaker, who later got elected was said to have masterminded the protest.
