The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested one suspect in connection to the attack on the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Udeme Sunday, was apprehended on Monday by the agency days after the incident.
NPO Reported that Obi and the ADC leaders had come under heavy attack at the Benin residence of the former Edo governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, shortly after the party’s acceptance of the 2024 Labour Party Edo governorship election candidate, Olumide Akpata, in an official defection ceremony held at the ADC secretariat.
The armed hoodlums opened fire at Odigie-Oyegun’s residence while vandalising the vehicles of the ADC leaders, in what the party described as an assassination attempt.
Pictures taken after the attack showed the bullet holes on the gate of the ex-governor’s residence as well as some of the ammunition recovered from the scene.
The incident had sparked public outrage with calls for the arrest of the perpetrators.
Meahwile, the ADC had in reaction to the development, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the attack- an allegation the ruling party had since denied.
