The Directorate of State Security on Wednesday confirmed that the negotiator between families of abducted Kaduna train passengers and their abductors Tukur Mamu is already in its custody .
NPO Reported earlier that Tukur was arrested in Cairo Egypt while on his way to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.
The security agency, in a statement by its spokesman Dr. Peter Ifunaya, said Tukur is a “person of interest” hence the contact to Nigeria’s partners abroad to apprehend him and bring him back to Nigeria to provide answers to some security questions.
This is to confirm that Mamu, as a person of interest, was intercepted by Nigeria’s foreign partners at Cairo, Egypt on 6th September 2022 while on his way to Saudi Arabia,” the statement read.
“He has since been returned to the country, today, 7th September 2022, and taken into the Service’s custody.
“The act followed a request by Nigeria’s military, law enforcement, and intelligence community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country. The public may wish to note that the law will appropriately take its course.”
Tukur has been at the centre of talks relating to the release of persons abducted by terrorists at the scene of the attacks on passengers on an Abuja bond train this year.
About 8 persons were killed in the attack.
Last month, Tukur had accused the Federal Government of being unserious with its handling of the release of the abducted persons.
At least, Tukur Who is the publisher of the Desert Herald, has negotiated three different releases since the abduction of the victims.
He is also a media consultant to the controversial cleric, Sheikh Gumi.
