An Enugu State Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Okey Ezea, has passed away.
Ezea, reportedly passed away on Tuesday in the United Kingdom, where he was receiving medical treatment.
While there is no official confirmation of his death yet, the lawmaker’s demise was announced in a post on Fecebook by on-air personality ‘Senator’ Chijinkem Ugwuanyi.
“Sad News. Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North, is dead… Rest in Peace.” He had wrote.
According to reports, a source close to his family, disclosed that he had earlier undergone treatment over an undisclosed ailment in Germany before his condition worsened.
Ezea, who was elected under the Labour Party (LP), was the only remaining National Assembly member from Enugu State on the party’s platform.
The lawyer, businessman, and former customs officer first ran for Enugu State Governorship in 2007 under the Labour Party.
He ran for the second time in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With a return to the Labour Party, Ezea contested for the Enugu North Senatorial District in 2023 which he won to bring an end to the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the district.
