A former Captain of Nigerian Green Eagles Christian Chukwu has died.
Chukwu’s death was broken by one of his teammates Segun Odegbami in a post seen by the NPO Reports on Saturday.
The Green Eagles was the Nigerian national team before it was changed to Super Eagles.
The team had won the 1980 African Cup of Nations.
Others who played alongside Chukwu include Tunde Bamidele, Alosius Atuegbu, Sylvanis Okpala, Emmanuel Okala, Okey Isima, David Adiele, Best Ogedengbe, Godwin Odiye, Adokie Amesimaka, Charles Bassey, Henry NWOSU and others.
The late Chukwu was a football sensation of his time along the likes of Odegbami, Muda Lawal, Felix Owolabi, Augustine Fregene, Dahiru Sadi, Ogbein Fawole and others.
Odegbami wrote in his post, “My Chairman has passed on this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and team mate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s football history, former captain and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, has passed on.”
