A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Umar Ghali Na’Abah has died.
NPO Reports gathered that Na’Abah, who has been battling an ailment for some time, died in the early hours of Wednesday.
Details of his death were not available as at press time Wednesday morning, it was gathered he might be buried today according to Islamic rites.
The late Speaker was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1999 from Kano State.
He became the Speaker a few months after the inauguration of the House following the resignation of the then Speaker, Salisu Buhari, from the same Kano State, over certificate forgery.
The news of his death, which was just filtering into Kano this morning had thrown the ancient city into mourning.
Aged 65, an aide to Na’Abah, Mr. Ahmed Tijjani Lawal, confirmed the death of the former Speaker. He did not give details yet.
