Former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has died in London.
This was disclosed in a post shared on X on Friday.
According to the post, Obiano passed away after prolonged battle with severe heart failure and complications related to urinary cancer.
A family source reportedly disclosed the ex-Anambra governor’s health had severely deteriorated in the past months.
“His health had been declining in the past months, but the final collapse came suddenly. We are devastated.” the source said.
Medical officials in London also confirmed that Obiano was receiving intensive care before his condition worsened.
“He fought till the very last moment,” a hospital insider said.
However, there is no official confirmation of the ex-governor death yet as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the ex-Anambra governor’s demise is coming few days to the hearing of his alleged money laundering case.
According to reports, an Abuja Federal High Court had fixed November 25 for Obiano’s trial.
He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) on nine-count charge.
The former governor, who served between March 2014 to March 2022, was alleged to have among others, misappropriated over N4 billion from the state’s treasury.
