Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has arrived at Port Harcourt. ahead of his resumption to office.
The governor landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport at about 12:19 p.m. on Friday.
He was received by a mammoth crowd of supporters who had earlier converged at the VIP wing of the airport, awaiting his arrival.
Having had his six-month suspension lifted on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu, the governor was tipped to resume to office yesterday.
With former Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd) departing on Wednesday night, residents and supporters of Fubara had stormed the government house on Thursday in anticipation for Fubara’s arrival.
They however left in disappointment after hours of waiting for the reinstated governor.
Despite the disappointment, the crowd again mobilised on Friday morning and besieged the airport following confirmation of the governor’s arrival today.
Their wait eventually paid off as they witnessed the arrival of Fubara’s flight.
The governor was received with wild jubilation and cheers as he disembarked from the aircraft.
With Tinubu resolving the clash between him and the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly, Fubara is due to appeared before the Rivers’ lawmakers for the presentation of his list of Commissioner nominees.
The lawmakers had yesterday resumed and held their plenary session since their six-month suspension.
Recall that Tinubu had suspended both the lawmakers and Fubara’s cabinet following his declaration of the six-month emergency rule in the state.
