The presidency on Wednesday confirmed attacks by some gunmen on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina.
The president Muhammadu Buhari, was however not in the convoy when the incident happened.
Garba Shehu, presidential aide, while confirming the incident, said the attacks were “unwelcome.”
Reports had it that gunmen had opened fire on the convoy of cars conveying aides of the president to Daura ahead of the President’s homecoming for the Sallah celebration.
The incident happened at Dutsinma village in Katsina.
Shehu confirmed on Wednesday saying, “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.”
Shehu confirmed that at least two persons in the convoy were injured by the gunshots and are currently getting treatments.
He wrote, “Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
