The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to assess and verify the documents uploaded on its portal for the registration of eight new political parties.
INEC, in an update on its ongoing party registration exercise, announced that eight out of the 14 pre-qualified associations have successfully completed the upload of all necessary information and documentation for their party registration.
As contained in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Commissioner & Chairman for Information and Voters Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, INEC disclosed the uploaded documents were confirmed during its regular meeting today.
According to the statement, only eight out of the 14 pre-qualified associations were able to complete the upload of their documents on the portal before the October 18 deadline.
The associations as highlighted in the statement include; All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), and African Alliance Party (AAP).
Others include Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA). Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).
Information and documents submitted by each association are set to undergo detailed assessment and verification which is the next stage of the registration process.
This stage, according to INEC, will ensure conformity with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
