The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party for Kano State, Abba Kabir-Yussuf has been declared winner of the state’s governorship election.
The Chief Returning Officer, Prof Ahmad Doko Ibrahim, who made the declaration early Monday morning, said Kabir polled a total of 1, 019, 602 to defeat the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Gawuna who scored a total 890,705 votes.
Before the declaration of the final results, there was a mild drama at the Collation Centre as the INEC Returning Officer called for two hours of recess which sparked controversy.
The police had to call for reinforcement as tension rose within the collation centre.
The result of the election confirmed the supremacy of the former Governor and presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso in the politics of the state.
