Lagos State House of Assembly’s Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has resigned from her role, ending weeks of leadership crisis as ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, makes return.
NPO reported that Obasa had met with members of the Assembly on Monday morning with leaders of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, including Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, and the state Attorney General, Lawal Pedro (SAN) in attendance.

Prior to her resignation, the legislative chamber’s principal officers, also tendered their resignation.
The deputy speaker, Nojeed Fatai and Chief Whip, Sanni Okanlawon, also resigned from their positions.
Following the resignation of the principal officers, Meranda ended her 49 days reign as she tendered her resignation letter.
In whar she described as a personal sacrifice, Meranda cited the need to end the leadership crisis rocking the House as reason behind her resignation.
This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the 10th Assembly. Once again, history beckoned on me to make personal sacrifice towards resolving the stemming leadership crisis rocking this Assembly of compatriots.
“I come from the illustrious Lawal Akapo family of Lagos. My family has played and shall continue to play defining roles in entrenching democracy and good governance.
“Please permit me dear colleagues to restate the position I previously expressed in a leaked publication wherein I state as follows ‘One, it is with dignity that I hereby give you notice of my decision to resign as the speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly
“I did not arrive at this decision lightly. Indeed, I took it carefully considering the integral circumstances that accumulated in my election as Speaker on the 13th of January 2025.” She said.
