The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved telecommunication companies’ demand for increased tariff rates and charges .
This was contained in a statement issued by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka.
According to the Commission, the tariff adjustment will enable the Telcos to invest in infrastructure and innovation which will ultimately benefit the consumers through improved service and connectivity.
However, the NCC pegged the tariff increment limit at 50 percent which it claimed is lower than the over 100 percent increment demanded by some of the telecommunication companies.
While acknowledging the financial pressures facing Nigerian households, the Commission stated that it has mandated the network companies to implement the adjustments transparently and in a manner that is fair to the consumers.
