Nigeria has lost one of its icons as veteran journalist and former Editor of Daily Times Mr. Peter Enohoro has died.
Enahoro, brother to one of Nigerian fighters for independence, the late Anthony Enahoro, died at the age of 88.
Enahoro’s death was made public via a short statement by Ms. Bunmi Sofola, another veteran journalist confirming that Peter Pan, as he is more known died in London.
She wrote, “Regret to announce the passing on of our iconic journalist Peter Enahoro “Peter Pan” today in London at the age of 88. RIP.
“Also known by the pen name of “Peter Pan” because of his popular column in New African magazine under that name. He has been described as ‘perhaps Africa’s best-known international journalist’”.
Enahoro had risen to limelight in journalism at a very young age become an editor at 23.
He later went into exile and worked with many foreign media organisations including serving as the Editor of Radio Deutsche Welle in Cologne, Germany, from 1966 to 1976, and was Africa Editor of National Zeitung, in Basel, Switzerland, becoming Editorial Director of New African magazine in London in 1978.
Enahoro later founded Africa Now magazine and in 1996, was brought back to Nigeria to serve as Sole Administrator of Daily Times.
