- Gives FG Ultimatum
The Nigerian Labour Congress Tuesday night said it would not go ahead with the second day of the two day national protest.
The Congress said it has given the Federal Government an ultimatum within which to fulfil its obligations to avert a return to the streets.
Workers had filed to many streets of Nigerian state capitals and Abuja today to protest against the state of the country’s economic situation.
The Labour, in a communique at the end of its National Executive Council meeting, said the objectives of the protest were achieved on the first day of the demonstration.
“Consequently, NEC-in-session resolved as follows: to suspend street action for the second day of the Protest having achieved overwhelming success thus attained the key objectives of the 2-day protest on the first day,” the communique partly read.
President of the NLC Joe Ajaero, had told protesters in Abuja on Tuesday that the protest was not about minimum wage but about the growing hunger in the country.
