Tragedy struck in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday when an old elevator in the city's tallest building, the Cocoa House came down killing an Engineer.
About three other staff of an engineering company fixing a new elevator were also injured when the staff of the company tried to bring down an old elevator after fixing a new one.
A source at Cocoa House told the NPO Reports in confidence that Oodua Group, owners of the edifice, had agreed to add one new elevator to one of the two functional after many years of occupants making do with only two out of the four initially installed in the tallest building.
"If you have been to Cocoa House, you would have observed that only elevators were working. People have complained of the hardship this has brought on the occupants and their businesses and so, OOdua agreed to fix a new one.
"It was in the process of taking down one of the old disused elevators that it came crashing. Unfortunately, one of the engineers died in it while others were injured and treated." the source told our correspondent.
