The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner across all the state’s 30 local government councils at the just concluded election.
This was announced by the electoral body’s Chairman, Hashim Abioye, at a press conference on Saturday.
As against calls for its suspension by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Nigerian Police Force, OSSIEC conducted the election under the directive of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Also in contrast the Police warning of security threats and potential violence, OSSIEC confirmed the peaceful conduct of the election across the state.
The conclusion of the election saw the PDP sweeping all the chairmanship and councillor seats following withdrawal of main opposition parties, the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Labour Party.
APC had withdrawn from the election based on the Court of Appeal ruling which reinstated its sacked LG Chairmen and Councillors, thereby labelling the election as illegal.
On its part, the Labour Party cited safety concern for its withdrawal from the election.
NPO reported that the voting commenced in some local governments as early as 8 am on Saturday including the Ede North LGA where Governor Ademola Adeleke cast his vote.
