The National Police Council has confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
This is coming barely three days after Tinubu appointed Disu as the acting IGP following the resignation of the immediate past police chief, Kayode Egbetokun.
Tinubu would send his name to the NPC for confirmation of his appointment.
The council confirmed Disu’s appointment while forwarding the name of the new acting IGP to the Senate for screening.
According to reports, the council meeting, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was held at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
It lasted less than 30 minutes before the decision was reached in compliance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Council to consider any appointment of an Inspector-General of Police by the President.
The Police Council, chaired by the President, comprises the 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police.
