The House of Representatives have summoned Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd) for an interactive session.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Green Chamber’s spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi, following its establishment of an Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight yesterday.
Recall that Ibas had taken over the mantle of Rivers’ leadership following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of state of emergency and suspension of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
According to the statement, the committee’s invitation of Ibas was in pursuant of the lower chamber’s constitutional mandate to exercise full legislative oversight in accordance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution.
Ibas is expected to appear before the Committee on Thursday 17th of April with its Chairman, Rep. Julius Ihonvebere, stating that the engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.
The statement read in part; “The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, constituted by the @HouseNGR following the Resolution of the National Assembly approving the Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency in the State, held its inaugural meeting today at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
“The meeting, which followed the formal inauguration of the Committee by the Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, provided a platform for Members to deliberate on preliminary reports and developments emerging from Rivers State since the Administrator assumed office.
“This public announcement serves to reinforce transparency in the Committee’s proceedings.
“The Committee reiterates its commitment to fulfilling its duties with diligence, transparency, and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
