There is drama in the Rivers state House of Assembly quarters today (Wednesday) as lawmakers locked the governor Siminalayi Fubara out of the quarter as he came for the presentation of the 2025 appropriations.
NPO Reports that President Bola Tinubu, had in his intervention in the crisis going on in the state, asked the Governor to seek the path of peace and comply with the ruling of the Supreme Court.
The lawmakers loyal to Fubara’s predecessor and current Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, have been holding their sessions at the quarters.
Recall that the lawmakers led by Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, were last month reinstated by the Supreme Court.
Having barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions from releasing the Federal allocation to the state government,, the apex court also order the Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget before the Amaewhule-led Assembly.
In what appear as a retaliation over their sack by the state governor, the Assembly’s gate was under locks and keys, denying Fubara access to the quarter.
Addressing newsmen, Fubara expressed his disappointment with the development as he recounted his efforts in reaching out to the Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, before his arrival this morning.
“I’m here this morning to comply with the judgement.
“Before my arrival, I already made several attempts including phone call to reach the Speaker and other members.
“I also wrote a letter personally to the Honourable Speaker for this particular invitation.
“But it is unfortunate that at the gate, you can see that the place is completely sealed and there is no sign that anything is going to happen today.
“The reason why we are doing this is the interest of our people. I don’t think there anything to be worried about. Maybe they are working on the letter. I expect to hear from them.” Fubara said.
