Members of the Nigerian Senate have approved the suspension of Kogi lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, for six months as recommended by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
Natasha, who was referred to the committee for disciplinary action following her last month’s outburst and clash with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over seat arrangement, now faces six months layoff.
NPO earlier reported that the Senate Committee had recommended the suspension of the lawmaker representing Kogi Centrall Senatorial District.
As read by its Chairman, Neda Imasuen, the Committee also recommended the withdrawal of her security details and stoppage of her salary and other emoluments within the period of her suspension.
The lengthy suspension was initially affirmed by the lawmakers as they rejected the prayer for the consideration of a written apology from her.
However, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, restated the prayer for the consideration of a written apology.
Following mixed reaction from the Red Chamber, Akpabio ruled in favour of the prayer.
However, the lawmakers approved other recommendations stated by the disciplinary committee.
Natasha’s suspension is also slated to take effect from today which was also approved by the Senate.
