Slams N5 Million Fine on Plaintiff
- Safiu Kehinde
The Supreme Court has on Monday dismissed lawsuit seeking the removal of President Bola Tinubu while slamming N5 million fine on the plaintiff.
In the lawsuit filed by the 2019 presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, Ambrose Owuru, had challenged the qualification of Tinubu for the 2023 presidential election held last year.
Owuru had called for the removal of the President.
The Supreme Court, however, dismissed the suit while also instructing its Registry to reject any further frivolous originating summons from Owuru.
According to reports, Owuru had petitioned the Supreme Court to remove President Bola Tinubu from office, alleging that Tinubu’s affiliation with the US Central Intelligence Agency renders him unfit for the presidency.
He also cited Tinubu’s prior forfeiture of $460,000 to the US government in a drug-related case as grounds for disqualification.
Owuru petitioned the Supreme Court to invoke Section 157 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and consequently declare President Tinubu unfit to occupy the nation’s highest office.
