A justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chima Centus Nweze has died.
Though the apex court has not confirmed the death of the justice, the Nigerian Bar association has on Monday expressed grief over the passing of the justice at the age of 64.

National Publicity Secretary, quoted President of the Nigerian Bar Association Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, as saying he received with shock the news of the passing of Hon. Justice Chima Centus Nweze.
“Hon. Justice Nweze was an astute and erudite jurist. His lordship’s numerous decisions have shaped, impacted and developed our law and jurisprudence. He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer.
“The NBA President condoles with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kayode Ariwoola, GCON, the entire Nigerian Judiciary, the Government and People of Enugu State, friends and family of Hon. Justice Nweze over the demise of his lordship and prays that the Almighty God comforts his lordship’s family and friends.”
NPO Reports that it was the late justice who in a split judgement of three-against-two delivered the controversial judgement of the Supreme Court which declared then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Yobe North Senatorial District for the 25 February general election.
In 2014, Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration approved the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to appoint Nweze to the supreme court.
He graduated with an LLB from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1983, BL from the Nigerian Law School in 1984, MSc in Law 1995, and a PhD in Law 2001 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
