President Bola Tinubu has officially decorated former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Tunji Disu, as the acting Inspector-General of Police hours after his appointment.
NPO earlier Reported the arrival of Disu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the event.
The decoration ceremony took place at 4pm at the President’s office with the likes of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the immediate past IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, in attendance.
Recall that Egbetokun had yesterday resigned from his role as the police chief, citing family reasons.
In the wake of his resignation, Tinubu announced the appointment of Disu as the new police chief.

The President approved Egbetokun’s resignation, bring an end to his tenure.
Meanwhile, Disu’s appointment reportedly came just 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026.
The new Acting IGP is expected to reach the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
However, his appointment is backed by the amended Police Act, which allows Inspectors-General of Police to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age,
