The meeting, according to sources , was brokered by some leading Christians within the APC who has sought better understanding between the party and its candidate with the association.
NPO Reports that there had been condemnations by a section of the Christian community in Nigeria over the choice of a Muslim as Tinubu’s running mate.
Since then, some Christian organizations had vowed to vote against the APC candidate.
Today’s meeting, our source said, is for Tinubu to explain himself and the rationale behind his choice of Kasim Shettima, a fellow Muslim and former Governor of Borno state.
A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, had led other Christians in the North to embark of campaigns against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC.
Lawal was a close ally of Tinubu.
Critics say that Lawal turned against Tinubu because he had hoped to be picked as the vice presidential candidate of the APC.
An official of CAN who did not want to be named told the NPO Reports at exactly 3:20pm that the meeting was still on.
“The meeting is on now please. We can talk later after the meeting.”
The meeting is holding at the National Christian Centre, Abuja and the CAN team is led by its President Archbishop Daniel Okoh while Tinubu is accompanied to the meeting by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); the Minister of Special Duties, Senator George Akume; Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu, amongst others.
