The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerges winner of the by-election held in the constituency.
In what marked another huge blow in the APC’s quest to take over Oyo state, the demise of its House of Representatives lawmaker, Olaide Akinremi, on the 10th of July had left the position vacant and shortlisted for the by-election held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.
The APC lost its grip on the constituency as the PDP candidate, Fola Oyekunle, was declared winner of the poll by the Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare.
Oluwadare, in the early hours of Sunday, announced that Oyekunle of PDP scored a total of 18,404 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adewale Olatunji of the APC, who polled 8,312 votes.
The Returning Officer also said that African Democratic Party (ADC) candidate, Femi Akin-Alamu polled 88 votes while Olabisi Olajumoke of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) had 40 votes.
“The candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hammed Badmus had 18 votes.
“Oyekunle of PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declare the winner of the election,” he further announced.
