Demands US President’s Retraction of Statement
- Safiu Kehinde
The Deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, has slammed the United States President, Donald Trump, over his threat and description of Nigeria as a disgraced country.
Barau called for the US President’s retraction of the statement as he labelled it as unacceptable and a violation of international law.
The lawmaker made the call while addressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths House on Friday.
He expressed his disbelief with Trump’s utterance of such statement, demanding that the US President apologise to Nigerians.
Barau further advised Trump to channel his grievances to United Nations rather than threatening the sovereignty of Nigeria.
“President Donald Trump calling Nigeria a disgraced country is quite unacceptable.
“We feel that he should understand, retract that statement and apologize to Nigerians because it is against international law.
“Whatever you feel about Nigeria, follow the legal route. Go to the United Nations. To go that far is unacceptable.
“It is not American and I can’t believe that such statement can come from the US President. We are not scared to tell the truth.
“If he is here, I will tell him you have gone against the International Law and the route you are taking is not the best route.” The Deputy Speaker said.
