The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, has replaced the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, as the leader of Nigeria’s delegation for the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual summit.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Cardoso, as the alternate Governor, will lead the delegates to meeting slated to hold in Washington DC, United States, as Edun was declared indisposed.
Meanwhile, NPO earlier Reported that the Minister had been flown abroad for urgent treatment after falling ill.
While no official statement has been issued to confirm the development, sources within the Federal Government had disclosed that Edun developed severe paralysis which may rule him out from resuming back to role.
With the World Bank and IMF meeting slated to commence on Monday, Cardoso, according to Onanuga, is set to lead the Nigeria’s delegate for the one-week engagement which will include Development Committee Plenary session, regional briefings, press conferences, and fora focused on international development, the global economy, and financial markets.
The statement read; “Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in Washington DC, which opens on Monday, October 13.
“Cardoso, as the alternate Governor, replaces the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, who is indisposed.
“The Nigerian team will also comprise the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anete.
“According to the World Bank, key elements of the Annual Meetings include the Development Committee Plenary session on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee meetings on October 17.
“Other featured events include regional briefings, press conferences, and fora focused on international development, the global economy, and financial markets.”
