The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday expressed worries over what it described as an unending circulation of falsehoods over a purported re-denomination of the currency.
Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, Director Corporate Communications of the Apex Bank, said there is no truth whatsoever in the rumour he said is gaining traction.
He said the attention of the bank has been drawn to the text message which is going viral which again brought apprehensions to Nigerians over the matter.
“We wish to reiterate that the content of the message are misleading.
The authors of the message , in their mischief, modified text eked from an old policy move by a previous CBN Governor in 2007 to make it appear recent,” he said.
He went further by saying that “for the avoidance of doubt, there is currently no plan by the bank to restructure and re-denominate the Naira. While the bank may be considering reforms, such are subject to laid down procedures in line with the provisions of the CBN Act 2007.”
He advised members of the public to discountenance the viral Messages.
