Former National Deputy Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George has described as disgraceful , the rejection of nominees for the position of commissioners by the Lagos state House of Assembly. George said the development showed that the All Progressive Congress is telling Lagos residents the party cannot be trusted to handle their affairs. NPO Reports that the House of Assembly announced its decision on Wednesday saying that 17 of the 39 nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, merited being confirmed as Commissioners. Prominent among those rejected by the lawmakers are Prof Akin Abayomi former Commissioner for Health; Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, former Commissioner for Information. Speaking on a live interview on Arise TV on Thursday, George said the rejection saga showed that the ruling party is a coherent party that has the capacity to run the affairs of Lagos. “When I read about it yesterday, I was motiffied. You are telling us, members of the public, that we have given you the mandate to manage us but you cannot manage the selection of your commissioners. It is disgraceful,” he said
Also speaking on the handling of the palliatives being sent to states by the federal government, George said there is no sense of direction adding that giving states of the federation the same N5bn shows the APC led government is insensitive to the different natures of Nigeria. He said giving Lagos with over 20 million residents and Bayelsa with about 2m people indicates that the federal government is insensitive to the situation in the country.
