Akwa-Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duty and Deepsea Port, Ini Ememobong, has resigned from his role following the defection of the state governor, Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
NPO Reported that Umo Eno, who had made his stance known over possible defection from the PDP, had also charged members of his cabinet to either join him or resign.
The Akwa-Ibom governor would finally declared his defection to the ruling party on Friday with the Hope Udozinma-led APC Governors Forum receiving him at Uyo, the state capital.
Following the defection of his principal, Ememobong tendered his resignation letter, noting that he cannot join the APC based on personal conviction.
He however expressed his gratitude to the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve under his administration.
The letter read; “I write to most sincerely appreciate the confidence and opportunity you offered me to serve in your cabinet in two critical Ministries-Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port.
“The experience garnered Within this period has been very enlightening and I profoundly value the privileged opportunity to have served your administration.
“You have directed that any appointee who is unwilling to accompany you to switch from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Should resign. Ipso facto, based on my personal conviction, I will be unable to join the All Progressives Congress, I hereby most respectfully tender my resignation as Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council.
“May I most heartily again thank you for the opportunity to serve your administration and our state. Thank you, Your Excellency.”
