The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced its primary elections hours after the party’s chairman declared the suspension of the exercise over the leadership crisis rocking the party.
NPO Reported that the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had yesterday announced the suspension of the exercise, stressing that the ongoing national level leadership crisis of the party had destabilised the electoral process ahead of the 2026 Gubernatorial election.
According to him, the crisis had also seen the party unable to hold the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses, scheduled for November 24th and 29th respectively on account of the suspension and counter-suspension of key PDP national leaders.
In the wake of the announcement, the state governor and PDP sole aspirant, Ademola Adeleke, announced his resignation from the party- a development earlier hinted by Sunday Bisi.
Adeleke had in a letter dated 4th of November declared his membership withdrawal from the party, citing its current leadership crisis.
The governor disclosed that he had tendered his resignation letter to the leadership of the party at his ward.
Despite the huge setback for the party, some members of the PDP would on Tuesday converge at Adolak event centre, Osogbo, to conduct the party primaries.
Video shared on the PDP’s official X handle revealed party delegates and security personnel withing the hall.
The PDP in a caption attached to the video also confirmed the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the event.
It however remains unclear if the party members conducting the primaries are from the Kabiru Turaki-led faction or the Samuel Anyanwu-led side.
