One police officer has been reportedly beaten up by some soldiers inside Ajegunle Spare Parts Market in Osogbo, Osun State, following a disagreement on Saturday.
It was learnt that the police and soldiers involved were not in uniform which made it difficult to identify them
NPO learnt that the disagreement erupted when the police officer who was driving Golf 3 was driving towards the market and the soldiers were in Highlander Jeep refused to give way for each other to pass
According to an eyewitness who spoke with NPO on Sunday morning said the soldiers and the police officer in a different vehicle refused to allow each other pass through in the Ajekunle spare part market.
“Both of them did not want to reverse for the other to pass. The police officer identified himself while one of the three soldiers in the car still directed the policeman to reverse. His refusal lead to the fight.
“But the situation became tense when some police operatives from Dugbe Police Division, located few meters away from Ajegunle spare parts market arrived at the scene and engaged the soldiers in an argument.
“The matter soon degenerated and there was an exchange of gunshots for some minutes. The incident occurred some minutes past 5pm on Saturday.
“We all fled the scene to escape being shot,” an eyewitness said
As at the time of filling this report normalcy has returned to the Ajegunle as the matter had been resolved.
