The trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele in the case of alleged procurement fraud has been adjourned to January next year.
This was just as it appeared that the former CBN Governor is yet to meet the terms of the bail granted him last week as he was brought to court by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service and taken away after the ruled adjourned the suit.
Emefiele, who was accused of using his position to confer a corrupt advantage on Sa’adatu Yaro, a staff member of the CBN by awarding a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020, was granted a N300m bail with sureties with C of O and property in the Maitama District of Abuja.
Emefiele was first suspended from office in June this year shortly after the assumption of office by president Bola Tinubu.
The CBN, under his watch, had started a currency re-denomination which threw Nigerians into hardship in the build up to the general election.
Tinubu had said the new currency scheme was targeted at preventing him from winning the presidential election. Since his suspension and subsequent arrest, he has not breathed air of freedom.
